AUSTIN — Texas’ Thanksgiving tradition is moving back to Black Friday.
The Longhorns announced Friday their 2016 football game against TCU scheduled for Thanksgiving night will be played the following day instead. It will be the first time UT hasn’t played on the holiday since 2007.
Although playing games on Thanksgiving night became a tradition when rival Texas A&M was still on UT’s schedule, the Longhorns struggled to command interest in the event after the Aggies left the Big 12. During the past four years, UT hosted TCU and Texas Tech on Thanksgiving night on an alternating basis, and Royal-Memorial Stadium was left with chunks of empty seats during each of those games.
