The 20-year veteran of the U.S. Naval Civil Engineer Corps will be honored during the coin toss when Texas Football hosts Baylor.
His parents grew up during the Great Depression and never had the opportunity to pursue higher education. When they insisted he go to college, Jim Broaddus didn't hesitate or argue.
"I was good with that. When I got to The University of Texas, I knew I wanted to be in the military because my dad had served and fought during World War II," Broaddus said.
Broaddus attended UT on a Navy ROTC scholarship and found his calling as a civil engineer.
