On Friday, retired Master Sergeant Christopher Kinney will be honored during the coin toss.
Christopher Kinney's path to nearly three decades of service to his country and fellow citizens began at an unlikely starting point.
He was kicked out of high school during his senior year. Working a night job, Kinney recalls having "no desire" to work in the armed forces, but felt a strange compulsion to visit the National Guard recruiter's office he often passed while driving home from work.
Following a short conversation, the recruiter signed Kinney up for an eligibility test.
"And two weeks later, I was gone," Kinney said.
