AUSTIN, Texas – Over the last several years, Texas Longhorn student-athletes and staff have taken part in the Juneteenth parade in East Austin to commemorate the end of formal slavery in Texas on June 19, 1865. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, Austin's annual Juneteenth parade will not take place, but there will be a virtual celebration on Friday, June 19 from 6-10 p.m. at www.JuneteenthATX.com.
"For the past five years, our players and I have enjoyed celebrating Juneteenth in a tremendous annual parade in East Austin," Texas Men's Basketball head coach Shaka Smart said. "I'm disappointed that this year we will not be able to come together to celebrate, however I am thankful to be able to join a virtual event that all can attend.
