AUSTIN -- The Longhorns' linebacker room has suffered a major loss for next season.
Freshman De'Gabriel Floyd, an early enrollee, is expected to miss the entire 2019 season after being diagnosed with spinal stenosis, or a "narrowing of the spinal column," Texas coach Tom Herman announced following Saturday morning's scrimmage. Floyd is supposed to be re-evaluated in January.
"Hopefully nine months of rehab, exercise, no hitting -- I mean, the kid's been hitting that thing since he was 8 years old playing football," Herman said. "We're gonna re-evaluate it in January, and until then, he's gonna help (defensive coordinator Todd Orlando) coach and continue pretty aggressive rehab with it.
