SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Few things perturb Tom Herman in an interview more than seeking a specific timetable for an indefinite goal.
One example came at the Big 12 meetings this past week in Arizona. Herman has said repeatedly that one of his key goals as Texas coach was to play meaningful games in October and November and contend for a Big 12 title -- something that hasn't happened since Mack Brown's final season in 2013. It didn't happen last season, Herman's first at Texas, although the Longhorns snapped a streak of three consecutive losing seasons with a Texas Bowl win over Missouri.
