Former Kentucky Wildcats transfer Devin Askew’s first action as a member of Chris Beard’s program won’t be in burnt orange, as the Texas Longhorns sophomore is one of 27 athletes who have been invited to the 2021 USA Basketball Men’s U19 World Cup Team training camp, the school announced on Thursday.
A former top-35 national prospect, Askew transferred from Kentucky in early April after just one season in Lexington, during which he averaged 6.5 points, 2.9 assists and 2.6 rebounds in 25 games, including 20 starts. Askew became a coveted target after announcing his transfer given the upside he boasted coming out of high school only a year ago, and he immediately emerged as a priority for Beard and his staff, who landed Askew just days later on April 13.
