AUSTIN -- Texas forward Jaxson Hayes has been tabbed as the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, the league announced Sunday. The awards are voted on by the Big 12 head coaches.
Hayes is the sixth Longhorn ever to win the award. Myles Turner, Tristan Thompson, Kevin Durant, Daniel Gibson and T.J. Ford are all past winners.
Hayes was also named to the All-Big 12 second team, all-newcomer team, all-defensive team and all-freshman team on Sunday.
Hayes has been one of the few bright spots during the Longhorns' up and down season. The Loveland, Ohio, native is averaging 10.
