Texas football played to its strength last year by relying on the defense for most of the season. However, the Longhorns do lose a lot on that side of the ball entering the 2018 campaign. Former All-American safety DeShon Elliott, Second Team All-American linebacker Malik Jefferson, and Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year Poona Ford are all gone.
This defense enters its second year under standout defensive coordinator Todd Orlando. Fans and players alike should have a ton of confidence in any Orlando-coached defense. He coached this defense to be the best in the Big 12 last season alongside the TCU Horned Frogs.
