With some flashes of an improved ground game for Texas football coming through in Week 1, the mix of carries in the backfield could shift heading into the coming weeks. Senior Tre Watson and freshman Keaontay Ingram were the two most impressive running backs for the Longhorns in the season opener against the Maryland Terrapins.
Watson got the bulk of the carries and was doing well until a late-game fumble. That Watson fumble was one of three huge turnovers for the Horns that ultimately caused Texas to fall short against the Terps. He had slightly more than 50 rushing yards on the game and didn’t have as much of an impact as anticipated in the passing game.
