Per the University of Texas and confirmed by Kaelen Jones of The Athletic, junior defensive back Josh Thompson will be redshirted after suffering a broken foot in the Sep. 21 win over Oklahoma State. Texas football is going to miss Thompson sorely.
The original timeline from coach Herman cited Thompson would miss roughly eight to ten weeks with a broken fifth metatarsal in his foot, though given the Texas Longhorns current state in the race to Dallas for the Big 12 Championship game, there is no reason to rush Thompson back.
Finding his role at the nickel spot before his injury, Thompson, the 302nd nationally ranked recruit of the 2017 class, recorded 11 total tackles and one tackle for loss in the three games he suited up in this season.
