The 2021 Texas football recruiting class could be thin in the secondary by all indications. Texas was good to get on the defensive backs in the 2020 signing class prior to National Signing Day (Feb. 5). The strength of their 2020 recruiting class in the defensive backfield was at safety, though. Texas’ highest ranked defensive back commits beyond four-star cornerback Kitan Crawford were two four-star safeties.
But losing out on three-star Duncanville cornerback Ennis Rakestraw to the Mizzou Tigers was not a great look for the Texas Longhorns football program. Since the Longhorns lost out on the commitment of Rakestraw in the 2020 recruiting class, they need to bolster the cornerback position for the 2021 group.
