An up and down 2019 season for the Texas football program did, at times, bring up questions about how hot the seat was for then third-year head coach Tom Herman. Texas finished up their 2019 season with a record of 8-5 (5-4 Big 12). What gave them that elusive eighth win was the triumph in the Alamo Bowl over the No. 11 ranked Utah Utes.
Beating Utah likely saved Herman from coming under a lot of heat this offseason. If Texas had finished with seven wins last season, this long period that the athletic department has to think about the direction of the football program in the midst of the novel coronavirus pandemic might come back to hurt Herman.
