An impressive senior season for Texas Longhorns defensive tackle Poona Ford resulted in some well-deserved recognition on Thursday, when the Big 12 named the South Carolina native the Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year. The award was voted on by the league’s head coaches.
Ford is the first Texas player to win the award since Brian Orakpo in 2008.
The 6’0, 305-pounder was named a team captain this season and finished with 30 tackles, eight tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one quarterback hurry, one pass breakup and a blocked field goal.
