GWANGJU, South Korea - Rising-senior Longhorn diver Alison Gibson teamed with Krysta Palmer to storm back in the final two rounds and secure a spot in the 3m synchro finals with a fifth-place finish (274.44 points) on Monday at the FINA World Championships in South Korea.
The American pair found themselves in 16th-place after three dives, but came back with a forward 3.5 somersault pike (72.54 points) in the fourth round as they sat in seventh-place. Gibson and Palmer then finished off their list with a back 2.5 somersault pike (63.90 points) on their final dive of the semifinals to complete their comeback and move on to the finals.
