AUSTIN -- Texas senior defensive end Charles Omenihu and freshman safety Caden Sterns each collected player of the year honors during the Big 12's announcement of awards and all-conference teams Wednesday afternoon.
Omenihu was tabbed as the league's Defensive Lineman of the Year. It's the second consecutive year a Longhorn has won the award, with former Texas defensive tackle Poona Ford claiming it last season. Sterns, meanwhile, was named the Defensive Freshman of the Year.
Omenihu ranks second in the Big 12 in sacks this season with 8.5 and fourth in tackles for loss with 14.5. Sterns is tied for second in the league in interceptions with four.
