Head coach David Pierce and the Texas Longhorns will be without another starter for the rest of the 2019 season after the school announced on Wednesday that senior catcher/first baseman DJ Petrinsky will undergo shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum.
The school plans on applying for a medical hardship waiver from the NCAA in order for Petrinsky to return for the 2020 season.
A Magnolia product, Petrinsky spent two seasons at Hill College, where he hit 24 combined home runs and batted .390 as a freshman. After arriving at Texas last season, Petrinsky started 58 games, including seven at first base, hitting .
