As it tried to break the two-game losing streak from falling short against the Michigan State Spartans and Radford Highlanders, Texas basketball had a very important non-conference matchup against the VCU Rams. VCU came into this game looking for its seventh win of the season, and continue its quest to a berth in the NCAA Tournament under head coach Mike Rhoades.
Texas basketball couldn’t really afford to stretch its two-game losing streak to three. It started off the regular season very well, undefeated through its first five games. Two of those wins in the first five games came over likely NCAA Tournament teams in the Arkansas Razorbacks and North Carolina Tar Heels.
