Texas baseball had more momentum than possibly any other program in the nation heading into Game 1 of the 2018 Big 12 Baseball Tournament on May 23, against the Kansas Jayhawks. The Longhorns concluded the regular season with a series sweep of the in-state Big 12 foe TCU Horned Frogs, and five straight victories.
That five-game winning streak for Texas baseball gave it the regular season conference championship. A collapse from the team that started the final week of the regular season in first place in the Big 12 standings, the Oklahoma State Cowboys, did exactly what it needed to do to let the Horns win the conference title by getting swept by the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
