Texas junior shortstop David Hamilton, arguably the Longhorn baseball team's best player, is out for the season with a torn achilles, as was first reported on Saturday morning by Orangebloods.com. Texas confirmed the news shortly afterward and announced Hamilton underwent surgery on Friday afternoon.
It was gutting news as the program nears the start of the 2019 season and Year 3 of the David Pierce era in Austin, fresh off a Big 12 championship in 2018 and a trip to the College World Series for the first time since 2014.
But the reason behind Hamilton's injury was not due to baseball activities or something that occurred in practice.
