Texas has a long history of attracting big-time basketball recruits. Current NBA stars Myles Turner, Avery Bradley and Kevin Durant all entered the program as top-5 prospects.
The Longhorns added another heralded high school star Thursday morning. Five-star center Mo Bamba, the nation's No. 3 prospect in ESPN's top-100, announced his commitment to Texas via the Player's Tribune.
"Coach [Shaka] Smart may not have been aware of it, but I put him through a weeklong job interview last summer when he coached me on Team USA in Valdivia, Chile," Bamba said in the piece. "We instantly formed a bond.
