In a tight three-game series between the No. 1 seed Texas Longhorns and the No. 16 Texas A&M Aggies in the Austin Super Regional at Red & Charline McCombs Field, the difference between the two longtime rivals was as narrow as possible — one run in each game, culminating with the Longhorns advancing to the Women’s College World Series with a tense 6-5 win over the Aggies on Sunday.
With Texas A&M pitching so far inside against star Texas catcher Reese Atwood that she was hit by three pitches on Sunday, it was third baseman Mia Scott and shortstop Viviana Martinez coming up with clutch hits ahead of Atwood that made the difference for the Longhorns as Scott went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored.
