TOKYO, Japan — Incoming University of Texas freshman Erica Sullivan captured the silver medal for Team USA in the 1,500-meter freestyle on Wednesday morning at the Tokyo Aquatics Center. Katie Ledecky earned the gold medal to give the Americans a 1-2 finish in the first-ever Olympic women's 1,500-meter freestyle, as the event was introduced into the Olympic lineup for these Tokyo Summer Games.
Sullivan, who posted a personal-best time of 15:41.41 in the Olympic final, will enroll at UT in late August. Ledecky won the race in a time of 15:37.34, while Germany's Sarah Kohler placed third in 15:42.
