Last week, the football world lost a giant when legendary defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin passed away in Oxford, where his son Lane is now the head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels.
At SEC Media Days on Wednesday in Dallas at the Omni Hotel, Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian used his first part of his opening statement to pay tribute to Kiffin, an early mentor to Sarkisian in his coaching career.
In 2000, when Sarkisian’s three-year professional career in the CFL’s Saskatchewn Roughriders came to an end, he returned to El Camino College, where he’d spent two seasons before becoming the starter at BYU.
