Steve Sarkisian feels comfortable starting summer enrollee P Michael Kern

AUSTIN, Texas — At the start of preseason camp, Texas Longhorns offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Kyle Flood made clear that head coach Steve Sarkisian’s goal every year is to be the most explosive offensive in the country.

And that means Sarkisian wants to give his punters little to do.

“Hopefully he’s not on the field,” Sarkisian joked during his game-week press conference on Monday.

It’s a joke that takes on more significance considering that the punter in question is summer enrollee Michael Kern, who only had a few weeks of conditioning before preseason camp opened the official position battle to take over for Ryan Sanford, the Stanford graduate transfer who punted well for Texas in his lone season on the Forty Acres.
