Texas men’s basketball coach Shaka Smart said Monday the school is taking “a day by day” approach with guard Andrew Jones, who has returned to classes and workouts after being diagnosed with leukemia last season.
A former Irving MacArthur standout, Jones had participated in summer workouts under the supervision of the team medical staff as much as his conditioning and medical treatment would allow, Smart said.
“He’s like any other player. He wants to be out there. He wants to be playing,” Smart said. “But we really want to make sure his strength is built back because Andrew is a guy who has high expectations of himself and if he’s out there, he wants to play like himself.
