AUSTIN — The Charlie Strong era at Texas is about to come to an end.
The Austin American-Statesman on Sunday cited a high-ranking source saying school officials had decided to fire Strong as football coach. Multiple school sources told the San Antonio Express-News they expected an announcement on Strong’s firing by Monday morning, but could not confirm that a decision had been made.
University president Greg Fenves and athletic director Mike Perrin had planned to wait until after the regular season to make a decision or an announcement regarding Strong’s future. But the Longhorns’ shocking loss at Kansas – one of the worst teams in major college football – on Saturday made it clear Strong would not return for a fourth season.
