As of Saturday night, Augie Garrido has been hospitalized after a serious medical situation, according to a report first broken on twitter by d1baseball.com’s Kendall Rogers.
Currently, not much more is known other than that Garrido is battling “a very serious medical situation.” Neither the school nor any other outlets have provided any information about Garrido’s condition.
Garrido is widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches of the college baseball level. He made his name at Cal State Fullerton, winning three NCAA titles from 1973-1987 and 1991-1996 before joining Texas in 1997.
In his 20 seasons as the Texas head baseball coach, Garrido won two NCAA Championships (2002 and 2005) and appeared in eight College World Series, most recently in 2014.
