The Longhorns (37-20) first test will be the Tigers of Texas Southern (27-26). The two teams met in Sugar Land at Constellation Field where Texas defeated the Tigers 10-2.
The Longhorns will come into the matchup highly favored and will be looking to make a statement in their first game of the 2018 Austin Regional.
David Pierce announced earlier today that Chase Shugart will toe the rubber in game one. This is an ideal game for Shugart to start. I anticipate the Longhorns offense giving Shugart, the opportunity to work with a lead early which should allow him to work deep into the game and keep the bullpen rested.
