AUSTIN -- A questioner rattled off the list of Sam Ehlinger's game-changing turnovers from 2017, from USC to Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, before being interrupted.
"I remember," Ehlinger said. "I was there."
Despite the mistakes but with a year of college behind him, Ehlinger has the quarterback edge as Texas begins preseason camp. Coach Tom Herman said Ehlinger will take the first snap with the No. 1 offense at practice Friday followed by junior Shane Buechele on the next series.
Herman said Ehlinger had earned that designation going back to the offseason with Buechele sidelined by a torn hip muscle, although he said the competition remains close.
