Power 5 schools in Texas shut out of draft's first round, but state's lone selection has his own inspiring story

ARLINGTON - The state of Texas has a lot of storied programs. Texas, Texas A&M, TCU and SMU lay claim to national titles. Texas Tech, Baylor and Houston have produced scores of NFL draft picks.

But not one of those schools saw one of their former players selected in the first round of this weekend's NFL draft. In fact, only one Texas school got to celebrate that achievement on Thursday night.

The University of Texas at San Antonio.

UTSA defensive end Marcus Davenport was selected No. 14 overall by the New Orleans Saints. The Saints traded both their 2018 first round picks and a future first-round pick to grab the 6-foot-6 Roadrunner.
