AUSTIN, Texas — Under a mostly cloudless sky made hazy by Saharan dust, the Texas Longhorns opened preseason camp in preparation for the program’s first season in the SEC on Wednesday afternoon with temperatures in the mid-90s and the heat index over 100 degrees.
The Big 12 logos that previously graced the end zone pylons were nowhere to be found.

With the 2024 season opener looming against Colorado State in exactly a month, the timing of Wednesday’s practice in the NCAA-mandated shells was intentional by head coach Steve Sarkisian, who scheduled Thursday’s practice for the same time before moving the Friday and Saturday practices to the evening.
