AUSTIN, Texas—Win No. 1 was also win No. 800 today at UFCU Disch-Falk Field as Texas Baseball's first win of the 2016 campaign—an 11-2 rout of UNLV—gave Augie Garrido his 800th victory as head coach of the Longhorns.
Led by three-hit games from center fielder Zane Gurwitz and shortstop Bret Boswell, every Texas starter found his way across home plate at some point during the 11-run offensive outburst.
Texas plated three runs in the first inning on three hits and two costly UNLV errors. After Gurwitz and Boswell led off the inning with a pair of singles, Patrick Mathis advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt and designated hitter Tres Barrera singled to the shortstop, who threw it away.
