NEW YORK — Super senior forward Timmy Allen posted a season-best 21 points, eight assists and seven rebounds, but No. 2/2 Texas (6-1) dropped an 85-78 decision in overtime to No. 17/17 Illinois (7-2) on Tuesday evening in Madison Square Garden as part of the Jimmy V Classic. The Longhorns held a 63-58 advantage with 60 seconds left in regulation but could not close out the contest, and the Fighting Illini outscored Texas by a 17-10 margin in overtime.
Allen set season highs in points, assists, field goals made (9-18) and minutes (40). Sophomore Tyrese Hunter added 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists in 33 minutes.
