AUSTIN, Texas – Senior guard Kendal Yancy registered a team-high 19 points and a career-best four steals to lead No. 21/22 Texas (1-0) to a 78-73 victory over Incarnate Word (0-1) in both teams' season-opener on Friday night at the Frank Erwin Center.
Yancy also hit a career-high eight free throws in nine attempts over 37 minutes played. With the victory, Texas has now won 14 of its last 15 season-opening games and improves its record to 91-20 (.820) all-time in season-opening games.
Forward Jarrett Allen was one of three freshmen to reach double-digit scoring tonight, recording a double-double in his first career game with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
