Texas led quickly, scoring 33 points in the first quarter to set a new single quarter school record.
Led by junior Lashann Higgs' 18 points and nine rebounds, No. 2/6 Texas women's basketball opened the season with a 95-59 win against the Stetson University Hatters on Sunday at the Frank Erwin Center.
The Longhorns shot 48.2 percent (40-for-83) for the game, and 53.3 percent (24-45) in the first half. Each player recorded minutes in the season opener, with the Texas bench scoring 35.
"It was a good start," said Head Coach Karen Aston. "In particular, I thought that our starting group and our older players who have already had the experience of first game jitters played really well.
