WACO, Texas – No. 10 Texas Baseball held on for a 5-3 win over Baylor in the Big 12 Conference opener on Friday night at Baylor Ballpark. Ty Madden pitched 6 1/3 innings struck out nine batters to earn his third-straight win.
The Longhorns (13-5, 1-0) used the reliable bullpen trio of Tanner Witt, Palmer Wenzel and Aaron Nixon for the final 2 2/3 innings of the ballgame. Nixon pitched 1 1/3 scoreless with two strikeouts to earn his first career save.
Baylor started the bottom of the first with back-to-back extra-base hits off of Madden to take a 1-0 lead.
