AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas freshman Carson Foster set a U.S. national age-group record in the 400-yard individual medley to highlight Friday's opening day of The University of Texas Men's Swimming and Diving First Chance Invitational at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. The First Chance Invitational is a non-scored meet featuring competitors from Texas, SMU and Texas A&M.
Foster's time of 3:35.27 in his official collegiate debut eclipsed the previous American record for the 17-18 age group held by Andrew Seliskar (3:37.52) by more than two seconds. The time also set a UT school record in the event, besting the previous mark of 3:36.
