ATLANTA – No. 1 Texas Men's Swimming and Diving opened the 2022 NCAA National Championships in record-breaking fashion to take the lead following Wednesday's opening night of the four-day meet at the McAuley Aquatic Center.
The quartet of senior Drew Kibler, sophomore Coby Carrozza, freshman Luke Hobson and sophomore Carson Foster smashed the American record in the 800 free relay with a time of 6:03.89 to claim the Longhorns' first victory of the national meet. Texas' mark bested the previous time of 6:05.08 established by the Texas squad of Kibler, Austin Katz, Jeff Newkirk and Townley Hass at the 2019 NCAA Championships.
