Many considered this year’s Oklahoma State team as one of the best collegiate golf teams ever, but today the Longhorns were a shot better than the defending champion Cowboys. Thanks to some late-round heroics by senior Steven Chervony and an overly impressive performance by freshman Cole Hammer, Texas won 3-2 in a thrilling match to advance to Wednesday’s championship match against the Stanford Cardinal.
Since John Fields took over as the program’s head coach in 1997, he’s led the Longhorns to three national championship matches and seven top-five finishes. This also marks the program’s ninth all-time National Championship appearance.
