COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas Track & Field opened the NCAA Indoor Championships with a pair of podium performances on Friday night.
Junior Steffin McCarter made it back-to-back years finishing in the top eight at the national championship. He leapt a distance of 7.94 meters (26-0.75) on his fifth attempt to move up from sixth place into fourth. During the final round of jumps he was passed up by one competitor to finish in fifth place. Last year, McCarter finished third with a jump of 7.83m.
Interim Head Coach Tonja Buford-Bailey said she knows McCarter has higher expectations for himself and while pleased to make the podium, he wants to be closer to the top.
