Longtime Texas baseball coach Augie Garrido, who led the Longhorns to two national titles and became the winningest coach in college baseball, died at 79 early Thursday morning after recently being hospitalized following a stroke, according to the school.
Garrido's coaching career spanned 48 years, with the last 20 coming at Texas before his exit in 2016. In addition to his two national titles at Texas, he won three with Cal State Fullerton and finished his career with a record 1,975 career wins.
"This is a very, very sad day," said Texas Athletic Director Chris Del Conte said in a statement.
