AUSTIN -- The second-seeded Longhorns staved off third-seeded Xavier, 78-76, in Sunday's NIT Sweet 16 round to advance to the quarterfinals. Texas improved to 18-16 on the season.
Here are three takeaways from Sunday's game:
1. Longhorns survive in OT
Texas played well enough in the first half to take a 38-32 lead heading into the locker room, despite giving up an inexcusable full-court pass with just 1.6 seconds left that led to an Xavier bucket at the buzzer.
The Longhorns quickly found themselves in a hole, though, early in the second half. Xavier opened the half on a quick 7-0 to take the lead, then shortly afterward built up a four-point advantage.
