When you attempt this much of a culture change, the first-year results are likely to be shaky. Strong kicked quite a few guys off of the team; others transferred. The result was a team with a stout defense and a no-identity offense. Texas lost five of seven games to fall to the brink of bowl ineligibility but looked great in three November wins that got them to 6-5.
