Jonathan Gray won’t have to share the backfield with Malcolm Brown this year. This should open the door for the Doak Walker Award candidate to have a banner season as the featured back.
Texas senior Johnathan Gray was named a preseason candidate on Thursday for the Doak Walker Award, honoring the nation’s top running back.
Heading into his final season, Gray has tallied 2,118 rushing yards which ranks 15th on the UT all-time list. He has played in 35 career games, including 13 starts.
A native of Aledo, Texas, Gray rushed for 90 or more yards in five games during 2013 despite missing four contests with an Achilles injury.
