EUGENE, Ore. – Leo Neugebauer set an NCAA record for day one of the decathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field.
Neugebauer's score of 4,685 points after five events was the best collegiate performance in NCAA history. He's now the eighth-best performer with the 13th-best performance in world history in the decathlon. His day was highlighted by a decathlon NCAA record in the shot put with a heave of 17.46m (57-3.50).
He began the day running the 100-meter in 10.64 seconds, .03 seconds off of his personal best. He added the day's best jump of 7.
