AUSTIN, Texas – Even though No. 11/8 Texas Tech brought the reigning USA Softball Player of the Year NiJaree Canady to Red & Charline McCombs Field for this weekend's Bevo Classic, it was Texas sophomore right-hander Teagan Kavan who was stealing the headlines in the Longhorns' 2-1, nine-inning win over the Red Raiders. The nearly-three-hour game followed a brief 1-hour, 38-minute 13-4 UT five-inning win over Maryland earlier in the afternoon.
Just hours after a quartet of Longhorns – Kayden Henry, Katie Stewart, Leighann Goode and Vanessa Quiroga – all blasted home runs longer than 236 feet spark the team's third run-rule victory of the year, it was time for Kavan and Canady to face off for the third time since May 30, 2024.
