FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — Texas Football's Collin Johnson was named to the 2018 watch list for The Wuerffel Trophy, announced on Thursday morning. The award honors college football's top student-athlete through community service, as well as athletic and academic success. Lifetime Longhorn Sam Acho was honored with The Wuerffel Trophy in 2010.
The Wuerffel Trophy is the only major college football award that places the majority of its voting emphasis on community service. The nominee must be a major contributor, maintain a GPA of 3.0 and have sustained and measurable community service. Johnson has been active in the Austin community since coming to the Forty Acres, routinely helping with youth clinics such as the Pop Warner Youth Football Clinic, Moov-in on UT's campus, visits to Dell Children's hospital and rebuilding the playground at Oak Springs Elementary, among many other things.
