FUKUOKA, Japan – Texas Swimming and Diving's Lydia Jacoby captured bronze for the United States in the women's 100-meter breaststroke at the World Aquatics Championships on Tuesday at the Marine Messe Fukuoka, while Luke Hobson placed fifth for the U.S. in the men's 200-meter freestyle.
Jacoby took third on the 100m breast championship final and was the top American finisher with a time of 1:05.94, finishing a tenth of a second from the silver. Ruta Meilutyte of Lithuania claimed the title, touching the wall in 1:04.62, the eighth-fastest performance all-time. At the turn, Jacoby touched the wall third, but at 75 meters the race for silver and bronze looked to be between Lilly King of the United States and Ireland's Mona McSharry who had taken control of the second and third positions.
