Inside the new dime defense Texas debuted vs. Colorado State

AUSTIN, Texas — “I was trying to give y’all a hint,” Jahdae Barron said on Monday.

The Texas Longhorns senior do-it-all defensive back had joked before the season opener against the Colorado State Rams about playing middle linebacker, at the time seemingly a way to deflect from a pointed question about where he was going to play with junior Jaylon Guilbeau taking over at nickel in preseason camp.

Barron ended up playing 17 snaps at field cornerback, where he’s competing with senior Gavin Holmes and redshirt freshman Warren Roberson for playing time, six snaps at nickel, and four snaps playing in the box.
